Kleftiko, Milos
At Milos' south-western tip, the sea has carved the white volcanic coast into Kleftiko: a maze of arches, stacks, tunnels and caves in dazzling pumice-white rock, standing in water of impossible turquoise. The name means the place of the thieves — the pirates of the Aegean hid their ships in these caves for centuries, and the mooring rings they cut are still in the rock. There is no road; you come by boat from Adamas, as every visitor must, which keeps Kleftiko in the gallery's hideaway tier even as its fame spreads. Sarakiniko, Plaka and Klima already represent Milos; this is its boat-trip icon.

About this artwork
At Milos' south-western tip, the sea has carved the white volcanic coast into Kleftiko: a maze of arches, stacks, tunnels and caves in dazzling pumice-white rock, standing in water of impossible turquoise. There is no road; you come by boat from Adamas, as every visitor must, which keeps Kleftiko in the gallery's hideaway tier even as its fame spreads. Sarakiniko, Plaka and Klima already represent Milos; this is its boat-trip icon. Afternoon is mainly clear, cloud cover about 5 percent, about 14.6°C, and dry.
