Kymi, Kymi
Kymi calls itself the balcony of the Aegean, and from its tiered streets the claim is modest: the whole central Aegean spreads below, with Skyros lying on the horizon like a beached whale. The town climbs its green hill in whitewashed tiers above its port, Paralia Kymis, where the Skyros ferry berths. It was a sailors' and silk town once — Kymi's sea captains built its mansions, and Georgios Papanikolaou, inventor of the Pap test, was born in its lanes. With Karystos it completes the gallery's Evia: south Evia's port of departure and viewpoint combined.
